Vend95: independent discovery of a flare star in front of M31
I've just found a rather bright transient on M31 images taken by Tamás Tordai tonight (28 September, 18:38 UT) . It appears to be an optical flare of a known foreground star.
The recent flare has been detected by Flavio Castelli et al. as AT 2026adgl just 21 minutes earlier than our image was taken. Our images taken at 19:22 UT clearly show that the object had faded significantly during the 44 minutes since the previous set of images was obtained.
Further investigation showed that the star was brightest on the 2×120 s images taken by Tamás Tordai at 18:33 UT, and then faded steadily on the images obtained later.
