Independent discovery of AT 2025ki / Vend58, a possible nova in M31
I discovered a 17-18 magnitudes nova candidate on my 8x120s images
of the Andromeda galaxy made with 0.43m telescope of Utah Desert
Remote Observatory at Great Basin Desert, Beryl Junction, Utah, USA with
Luminance filter in the morning of 11 January 2025 on 04:43 UT. The transient (with internal name Vend58) was clearly visible on the images with the subtracted reference images, however it was not visible on the original stacked images because of shine of the core of Andromeda galaxy. Therefore I was a bit uncertain and reluctant reporting it either to the TOCP webstie of the TNS server as a discovery. Unfortunately it was too late to make confirmatory images with a larger telescopes because by that time (around 9.00 UT) the galaxy was not visible either from UDRO or SRO.
On the afternoon of the same day AT 2025ki was reported by the XOSS team discovered on their images made around 7.5 hours later than my images. Two days later on my 8x120s images made with the 0.5m telescope at UDRO, this nova candidate was clearly visible on the stacked images too, not just on the subtracted images. Maybe I should have report the discovery Vend58 even I was a bit uncertain that time. Should I have made images with the 0.5m telescope on January 11 morning probably this guest star would have been visible directly on the stacked images too...
